Starting us off for day two we had Emma Raducanu up against qualifier, Anna Blinkova. Naturally, the crowd were excited to see the British number 1 back on the grass at The Queen’s Club. Raducanu had a fairly successful week here last year, reaching the quarter-finals. From the off, Emma Raducanu looked on top form as she blazed ahead, and following a brief rain break, took the first set 6-0. Into the next set, Raducanu was looking almost unstoppable as she raced to another 3-0 lead. Blinkova remained positive in her approach and recovered one break of serve. The Brit kept her head though and ultimately cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 victory in just one hour.
Next up, Katie Boulter and Leylah Fernandez returned to Centre Court to resume yesterday’s final match, which the Canadian lead 6-3, 3-3. Fernandes broke Boulter’s serve in the first game but Boulter barely gave the home crowd a moment to worry about it as she instantly replied to get back on level terms on the second set. A tie break was needed to separate them and it was Boulter who came out on top 7-4 to take us to a decider. The final set was again hard fought between the pair. Boulter broke to love at the crucial time to give herself a 6-5 lead and the opportunity to serve for the set. Katie Boulter continued to look assured on her serve and sealed the win with a 3-6, 7-7, 7-5 victory – a fantastic turnaround!
Today’s third match saw our 2025 Champion Tatjana Maria back on Centre Court for the first time since she lifted the trophy 12 months ago. On the other side of the net, Maria Sakkari made her first appearance at Queen’s. Maria picked up where she left of last year, executing her highly effective slices to take the first set 6-3. Sakkari seemed to be getting frustrated in the second set, making repeated errors at the net. Tatjana Maria executed the perfect point to break serve and put herself in a 5-3 lead, ready to serve for the match. The defending Champion sealed the win 6-3, 6-3
Finally, in what felt quite surreal, 23 time grand slam champion and the greatest athlete of all time, Serena Williams, made her return to professional tennis on the grass at Queen’s. The atmosphere on centre court was truly special and filled with excitement. Williams has paired up with 19 year old Victoria Mboko who made her mark in Montreal last summer. This iconic pairing were up against the third seeds, Erin Routliffe and Nicole Melichar-Martinez. There was a huge roar from the crowd with every point won and every serve smashed over the net by Serena Williams. The first set went to a tie-break which Mboko and Williams won 7-2. The pair continued showing their strengths in the second set to win the match 7-6, 6-2. It’s absolutely brilliant to have Serena Williams here at The Queen’s Club, a true legend of the game. Centre Court even got to see her famous twirl when the win was sealed! What a great comeback – we can’t wait for more!
