Semi-finals day here and first to play on Centre Court was Francisco Cerundolo versus Brandon Nakashima. Cerundolo looked to have the edge when he broke his opponent’s serve late in the first set. The Argentine couldn’t serve it out though and Nakashima took us to a tie-break. It was Brandon Nakashima who came out on top in this, winning it 7-5 to put himself a set up. In the second set, there were three breaks of serve, two of which went Francisco Cerundolo’s way. He won the set 6-3 to take us into a decider. In the third set, the two players once again exchanged breaks of serve to keep things level. Cerundolo then took his chance late in the set to go ahead 5-4, and as such step up to serve for the match. This time the Argentine held firm on serve and took the match in three, securing a place in tomorrow’s final, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.
In the second of our semi-finals today inside the Andy Murray Arena, 2024 Champion Tommy Paul was up against Ugo Humbert to play for his second final here at The Queen’s Club. Tommy Paul has put in some commanding performances on his way to the final here. Ugo Humbert came through an impressive three set match in the second round and then a more dominant performance in the quarter-finals against Rinky Hijikata. It was the American, Paul, who got himself in the match with a 6-3 win in the first set. Converting two of his three break points, Paul was clinical to get himself ahead. In the opening game of the second set, Paul carried the momentum to break serve in the and take the lead once again. He served well throughout and clinched another break of serve to seal his victory 6-3, 6-3.
Francisco Cerundolo and Tommy Paul will play for the Championship tomorrow at 1:30pm.
